WiPlan
The radiocom platform is an analysis tool which allows to arrange the most advanced techniques in conception, modelling and test for radiocommunication systems. This platform is constituted by high technology equipments developed by “Agilent technologies”, a software “Advanced design system” (ADS), and measurement hardwares which are based on an arbitrary waveform generator (ESG 4438C) and a vector spectrum analyzer (VSA89641).

The CAD software allows to modelize a complete transmission system (transmitter, propagation channel, receiver...), from the electronic component (transistor, varactor...) to the whole standard architecture (802.11, WiMax, 4G...). Any analogical and digital system can be designed, simulated and optimized via this software.

The arbitrary waveform generator by itself is able to generate any complex signal which is then possible to analyze after distribution in a system with the vector spectrum analyzer. The analysis vectorial software can demodulate this signal and offers visualisation options to show spectrum, constellations, eyediagram, BER... in order to accurately estimate the transmission system quality.

With this platform, it is also possible to extend measurements up to 6 GHz, with a received bandwidth analysis of 36 MHz. Moreover, the ESG and the VSA can both take into account the telecommunication standard or customised one.

Futhermore, the modelised signal with ADS can be loaded into the ESG I-Q memory, then the signal measured by the VSA can be recorded, transfered and compared to simulations. In conclusion this software/hardware interaction allows to test or conceive very realistic systems and offers us a practical benchmark for existing or future technologies.

Example of comparison between theory, simulation (ADS/Ptolemy) and measurement results for 802.11b signal.

This platform was extended to enable MIMO testing, with two ESG and two RF receive channels on the VSA. Complete 2x2 MIMO experiments could be performed, always with a connected solution between simulation tools and materials.

Below are some examples of 802.11b and 802.11g SIMO receiver tests.

The complete MIMO testbed need accurate synchronization of emitters.

This platform is also used to perform multi-antenna channel sounding.
