  • (19.12.2016) Our work on visible light communications for IoT, "Off-the-shelf Bi-directional Visible Light Communication Module for IoT Devices and Smartphones", will be demonstrated by Alexis Duque at the 14th International Conference on Embedded Wireless Systems and Networks, EWSN 2017, to be held in Uppsala, on February 20-22.

  • (26.11.2016) Continuing the series of works on mobile traffic analysis, the collaboration with Angelo Furno, Marco Fiore, Cezary Ziemlicki and Zbigniew Smoreda, which takes place in the frame of the ANR ABCD project, was accepted for publication in IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, under the title "A Tale of Ten Cities: Characterizing Signatures of Mobile Traffic in Urban Areas".

  • (25.11.2016) The paper "Joint Spatial and Temporal Classification of Mobile Traffic Demands", co-authored with Angelo Furno and Marco Fiore, was accepted for publication at the 36th Annual IEEE International Conference on Computer Communications, INFOCOM 2017, to be held in May in Atlanta.

  • (24.11.2016) The first workshop on smart cities communications and networking, organized by the French Rescom community, will take place on January 11 at Sophia Antipolis, in the prologue of the Rescom Days. You can submit presentation proposals by December 16.

  • (02.11.2016) Abderrahman Ben Khalifa joined the group as a Ph.D. student, to work on machine learning approaches applied to medium access control in IoT networks. He is funded by the Spie-INSA IoT Chaire and by the Fed4PMR project.

  • (17.10.2016) On November 16-17, I will attend the "Digital Days" organized by the French National Research agency in Paris. I will present the results of the soon to be finished ANR ABCD project.

  • (25.07.2016) The paper "Unleashing the Power of LED-to-Camera Communications for IoT Devices", summarizing the first results of Alexis Duque PhD thesis and with contributions from Hervé Rivano and Adrien Desportes, has been accepted for publication at the VLCS 2016 workshop, to be held at New York, USA, on October 3, in association with the prestigious ACM MobiCom 2016.

  • (05.07.2016) Angelo Furno will present the latest results we obtained in our collaboration with Marco Fiore at the i-CiTies 2016 conference, to be held in Benevento, Italy, on September 29-30.

  • (20.06.2016) The most important results from Jad Oueis MS thesis, co-supervised with Fabrice Valois, will be published in the paper "Energy Harvesting Wireless Sensor Networks: From Characterization to Duty Cycle Dimensioning", to be presented at the IEEE MASS 2016 conference, in Brasilia, Brazil, on October 10-13.

  • (01.06.2016) The extension to our Infocom 2014 paper, co-authored with Angelo Furno, Diala Naboulsi, and Marco Fiore, entitled "Mobile Demand Profiling for Cellular Cognitive Networking" has been accepted for publication in IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing.

  • (02.05.2016) Between May 23 and May 26, I will be in Bayonne, organizing the first ever edition of CoRes, in the opening of the AlgoTel 2016 conference.

  • (13.04.2016) The paper "Linking the Environment, the Battery, and the Application in Energy Harvesting Wireless Sensor Networks", co-authored with Jad Oueis and Fabrice Valois has been accepted for publication at the AdHoc-Now conference, to be held in Lille, France, on July 4-6.

  • (07.03.2016) Between March 23 and March 25, I will be in Toulouse, participating to the IFIP Wireless Days 2016 conference.

  • (25.02.2016) On March 10-11, I will be in Compiègne, participating to the French national workshop on vehicular networks (REVE), organized by the newly named CNRS working group RSD - Networks and Distributed Systems. I will give a talk about our work on combining short range RF and VLC communications in vehicular environments.

  • (05.02.2016) The work on the random access procedure in LTE networks, started two years ago with Inès Keskes, and later continued through a collaboration with Soukaina Cherkaoui and Hervé Rivano has been accepted for publication at the IFIP Wireless Days 2016 conference, to be held in Toulouse, France, on March 23-25.

  • (01.02.2016) Inspired by the succeess of Algotel, we are organizing this year, for the first time, a French conference on protocol design, performance evaluation and experimentation, entitled CoRes 2016 Short submissions (4 pages, sinle column) are open until February 25.

  • (27.01.2016) The Volvo group and INSA Lyon created a chair on "Solutions For the Future of Urban Transport". I am happy to be part of the steering committee of this chair, presided by Prof. Didier Remond.

  • (15.12.2015) On January 11 and 12, I will attend the ResCom days in Lille, the yearly meeting of the French communication networks community. Anh-Dung Nguyen and Angelo Furno will present their recent results at this venue.

  • (21.10.2015) On December 1 and 2, I will participate to the Connected Objects workshop, organized in the context of the 28th Jacques Cartier Meetings. On the first day of the workshop, I will also give a talk on connected vehicles and intelligent transportation.

  • (09.10.2015) On October 15 I will give a talk in the Spie Transportation Group meeting, with the title "Teaching Our Cars How to Speak: Communications for Intelligent Transportation Systems".

  • (01.10.2015) Today I start the work with two new PhD students. Jad Oueis joins the team to work on self-organizing professional mobile radio networks, while Alexis Duque starts exploring the use of visible light communications in smart cities. Also, Anh-Dung Nguyen joins the ABCD project as a post-doc.

  • (14.09.2015) On September 24, at 14h, Diala Naboulsi will defend her PhD thesis "Analysis and Exploitation of Mobile Traffic Datasets", in the Chappe amphitheatre. The external members of the jury will be Roch Glitho, Xavier Lagrange, Rami Langar, Thierry Turletti and Eric Fleury.

  • (10.09.2015) The project "Mobile Traffic Signatures in the Urban Landscape", proposed together with Angelo Furno and Marco Fiore, has been selected among the 10 finalists at the Telecom Italia Big Data Challenge. The three of us will participate to the Big Data Jam event, in Rome, on September 21.

  • (15.08.2015) Together with Angelo Furno and Marco Fiore, we will contribute with an invited paper, "A Comparative Evaluation of Urban Fabric Detection Techniques Based on Mobile Traffic Data", to the 7th IEEE/ACM International Conference on Advances in Social Networks Analysis and Mining (ASONAM 2015), to be held in a few weeks in Paris, France.

  • (10.08.2015) The paper "Large-scale Mobile Traffic Analysis: A Survey", co-authored with Diala Naboulsi, Marco Fiore and Stéphane Ribot, has been accepted for publication in IEEE Communications Surveys & Tutorials.

  • (03.07.2015) After a long work, the first results of our study on cellular network offloading are starting to appear. A preliminary study will be published at the 1st International Forum on Research and Technologies for Society and Industry (RTSI 2015). The paper is a collaboration with numerous colleagues: Patrice Raveneau, Marco Fiore, Mathieu Cunche, Sandesh Uppoor, Hervé Rivano, Zbigniew Smoreda (and we certainly forgot a few contributors in the authors list).

  • (03.06.2015) The Handbook of Research on Social, Economic, and Environmental Sustainability in the Development of Smart Cities was published. The UrbaNet team participated with a chapter on "Wireless Access Networks for Smart Cities", co-authored by all the team members.

  • (12.05.2015) Between June 22 and June 26, we will organize the ResCom Summer School in Lyon. The topic of this year's event will be "Smart Cities". The chairs of the school are Nathalie Mitton and Hervé Rivano, and I will be handling the local organization.

  • (15.04.2015) The paper "Suivi d'utilisateurs mobiles et reconstruction de trajectoires" (in French) has been accepted for presentation at the French AlgoTel 2015 conference. The paper is co-authored with Patrice Raveneau, Andrea Caballero and Hervé Rivano.

  • (25.08.2014) The paper "WARIM: Wireless Sensor Network Architecture for a Reliable Intersection Monitoring", co-authored with Rodrigue Domga Komguem, Maurice Tchuente and Fabrice Valois has been accepted at the 17th International IEEE Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems, ITSC 2014, to be held in October in Qingdao, China.

  • (11.07.2014) Today the UrbaNet team moved in a new building on the Lyon campus. We are now based on the CEI-2 building, at the 3rd floor.

  • (08.07.2014) The abstract entitled "Urban Mobility Flows from Mobile Phone Data", proposed together with Diala Naboulsi and Marco Fiore has been accepted for oral presentation at the 2014 Urban Modelling Conference, to be held in Lyon in October.

  • (09.06.2014) Between June 14 and June 21 I will be visiting the University of Yaoundé I, where I will also attend a workshop on the use of wireless sensor networks in an industrial environment. In this sense, on June 17, I will give a talk on "Data Collection and Analysis using Mobile Phone Sensors".

  • (07.06.2013) The "Adaptive Behavior and Cloud Distribution" - ABCD project received funding from ANR (the French National Research Agency) and will start in the Fall 2013, for a duration of 3 years. This multi-disciplinary project is led by researchers in the PHARE-LIP6 team at Université Paul et Marie Curie, and involves partners from Orange Labs, Télécom ParisTech and Ucopia. The CITI-INRIA UrbaNet team is represented in the project by Marco Fiore and myself and will work on the study of user mobility and on ressource allocation by taking into account the dynamics in service consumption observed in the cellular network.

  • (23.05.2013) The "Privacy on the Move" (Priva'Mov) project received a grant of excellence from the IMU Labex and will start in the Fall 2013, for a duration of 3 years. This multi-disciplinary project is led by Sonia Ben Mokhtar, CNRS researcher in the LIRIS-DREAM research group, and involves partners from INRIA Privatics, EVS-ITUS and LET-ENTPE. The CITI-INRIA UrbaNet team is represented in the project by Hervé Rivano and myself and will work on the collection and analysis of wireless network traces, with an application to cellular traffic offloading.

  • (22.03.2013) The on-going work on urban mobility, a collaboration with Marco Fiore and Diala Naboulsi in the context of the D4D challenge, will be presented during a poster session at the 3rd International Conference on the Analysis of Mobile Phone Datasets, NetMob 2013, to be held in May at the Media Lab at MIT.

  • (01.12.2012) The paper "Capillary Networks: A Novel Networking Paradigm for Urban Environments", practically the position paper of the UrbaNet team, will be presented at the 1st Workshop on Urban Networks (UrbaNe 2012), a workshop associated with the 8th International Conference on Emerging Networking Experiments and Technologies (ACM CoNEXT), and to be held on December 10th in Nice, France.

  • (20.11.2011) My PhD thesis, "Congestion Control in Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks" has been nominated for the Léopold Escande prize. This prize is awarded each October to the best PhD thesis over the three schools of the Institut National Polytechnique de Toulouse, and only the best 15% of all thesis are nominated.

  • (16.11.2011) Tomorrow at 14h I will defend my PhD thesis at ENSEEIHT (Salle des Thèses).
